Malibu earthquake: 4.2 magnitude temblor strikes off Malibu Beach, with aftershocks shaking Southern California

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the California coast around 2 a.m. Wednesday, about 10 miles south of Malibu Beach.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.

According to the Geological Survey, aftershocks were felt across Southern California, with magnitude 2.6 to 3.5 aftershocks in the area.

There were no immediate reports of major damage, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire department “completed a strategic survey of 470 square miles of downtown Los Angeles following the 4.2M earthquake near Malibu. No damage or injuries were reported and normal operational mode has resumed,” it said.
