The United States is providing more than 800 million. New humanitarian aid for the Syrian people To continue helping those affected by the war in Syria, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield made the announcement while addressing a conference in support of Syria in Brussels.

“This war has been going on for 10 years and ordinary Syrians are suffering from it. People are starving. Medical supplies are not arriving. The United States is the largest humanitarian donor across the board. It’s important to help people in need, wherever they are, “Thomas Greenfield told CNN exclusively.

The new funding – the largest amount the United States has donated to the Syrian conference in Brussels – has come at a time when the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is escalating, with millions fleeing the country due to the Russian invasion. Are running away

“Syrian aid will not be affected in any way by what we are doing in Ukraine. And the commitment we are making shows that,” said Thomas Greenfield.

There are growing concerns about keeping the Bab al-Hawa border crossing open from Turkey to Syria, the only border crossing now open for humanitarian aid. The UN Security Council resolution to keep it open for one year will expire in July. The subject of this border crossing will be at the forefront of the UN Security Council in the coming months.

Thomas-Greenfield on Tuesday demanded that the crossing be kept open, with life-saving assistance enabling it. He also called for increased access to Syria for humanitarian aid.

“It’s a matter of life and death,” he told the conference.

It is unclear whether Russia – which in the past has opposed keeping border crossings in Syria open – will support keeping the crossing open this time.

“We think it’s in Russia’s interest to keep this border crossing open, because otherwise you would starve millions in Syria,” Thomas Greenfield told CNN. And they are inside, and the Syrian government is responsible. This border crossing provides essential medicines, food and water for the Syrians, not only on the border but also inside Syria.

Thomas Greenfield said the United States had supported aid to other parts of the country from Syrian-controlled areas this year, but reiterated that the border crossing needed to remain open.

“We also supported in our negotiations with the Russians last year that we would support cross-border humanitarian aid. Humanitarian aid coming from Syrian-controlled areas to other parts of Syria. It works, but it can’t replace cross-border aid, “he said.

When it comes to Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine war and the war in Syria, Thomas Greenfield also called Moscow’s move “Syria’s butcher.” Alexander Dvornikov Russia’s command of the invasion of Ukraine is another example of Russian barbarism. He added that the fact that he was still allegedly committing war crimes “is definitely something the world needs to move forward.”
