Elon Musk said on Tuesday that he would restore former President Donald Trump’s banned Twitter account if his acquisition of the company was completed.
Musk’s remarks at the Automotive Conference mark his first public acknowledgment since the billionaire announced plans to buy the social media giant for 44 44 billion.
Musk called Twitter’s decision to ban Trump in January 2020 a “mistake.”
“I don’t think it was right to ban Donald Trump, I think it was a mistake,” Musk said. “I will reverse the ban. I will say that I do not own Twitter right now, so this is definitely not something that will happen, because what if I do not own Twitter? But my opinion, And Jack Dorsey, I want to be clear, I share this opinion, that we should not be banned. ”
Trump has said he will not return to Twitter even if his account is restored, instead of promoting his social media project, Truth Social.
